Postal Center Services
“Did she tell you how this all got started?” Allan says. “She was up late and watching a story on television about a woman in California who started a chain of postal centers back in the mid ’80s, and after the local Park Cities United States postal station closed, she saw the need to open a postal center here.”
Allan was in the home-building business at the time. They opened a mail center on Rosedale Avenue; Allan joined the postal business full time to help meet the demand and, perhaps, to stay close to Martha.
“You know, we were right there across from Bubba’s in 1986,” Martha says. “We didn’t have UPS stores back then. There were not many postal centers either. It was really needed.”
The business was doing well, and when another building at the corner of Westminster and Snider Plaza became available, they decided to move operations there.
With the extra overhead and square footage, they opened an antiques shop, with dealers, under the same roof with the postal center.
“At that time there weren’t many antique shops with multiple dealers in Dallas either,” Martha says.
